if any good can come of your problem... my job currently involves approvals for a series of public multi-use trails that connect to our statewide system of trails along the Erie Canal. Since this means that the users will be pedestrians and cyclists as well as disabled folks, I previously raised the issue to controling the speed of the bikers.

I just used your misfortune as a cautionary tale with some suggestions for ways to perhaps help prevent future mishaps on these new trails. Different circumstances, but a common issue... and sometimes isolated areas that would not get the quick attention your wife got.
