Another reason why I think that the banjo-player could be Dan Tate comes from the fact that Dan once told me of his two friends Pete and Alan who had visited him in the past. I had previously noted that Dan, who was blind, had a rifle standing behind his door and a pistol in his pocket. "Why", I asked, "do you have the guns?" "Well, Mike", Dan replied, "I've heard of the red menace, and if they come over my mountain I'll be ready for them!" I didn't have the heart to tell Dan that the "red menace", in the shape of Pete Seeger and Alan Lomax, had not only been on his mountain, but had actually been in his home!

As to the fiddle & banjo duet,I'm still hoping that somebody will recognise them.
