This summer has been a running battle against the ants. If you see a few in a stray part of the house you can't ignore it - they're the scouts looking for something totally inappropriate for ants to gang up on. And they come from odd directions. The walls must be filled to the top with ants is all I can guess.

Last week there was a long line through the hall into the laundry room, up the dryer and into the trash can where I had deposited part of a chicken carcass that I hadn't emptied to the big trash can outside by the garage. I vacuumed and spritzed with diatomaceous earth and finally got rid of a few million ants. Last night it was the same near the back door - they had found their way into an antique trunk and through the apparently not airtight lid to Zeke's food and had swarmed the container.

Again I got out the vacuum and the DE and then I poured the contents into a plastic bag and put it in the freezer overnight. It has DE (feed grade - it's in their dog food already) and dead ants. I'll put it in what I believe is an airtight food container once it has thawed then feed the dogs this morning. A little more protein in the food than it was originally rated.
