OK, this one worked the other way around.

Went to the store to get cat food, intending to go to the fried chicken place near my old house, over by the university.

Hear on the radio that it's homecoming weekend so I really don't want to go anywhere near the university, so I think I might make my own fried chicken.

At store, decide not to make fried chicken myself after all.

At car, putting groceries in the car - lo and behold, there are 2 packets of chicken I didn't buy. Check the receipt - nope, I really didn't buy them. The person ahead of me in line had only bought a pumpkin, and there was nobody behind me in line, so where did this magic chicken come from?

I think the gods wanted me to make my own fried chicken.
