I thought of two solutions and ran them past B as he was leaving just now. He is willing to go into the cellar and put hardware cloth/mesh over any openings. THEN, he tells me he has found the hole where rat gets in! (And did he block it? NO!) I will check it tomorrow in daylight.

THEN he tells me there is a plan afoot to do the interior reno in January! (Would I be the last to know?) This means I need to dig up a whole bunch of plants and move my "junk" - "That's not junk that is flower pots!!" What part of "plants need to be moved before the ground freezes"...?
