Sorry to have to disagree with you pfr. I watched/listened to last night's Festival of Remembrance. Unfortunately I missed Jim Radford's contribution which I will try to pick up on playback. I'm not a massive fan of John Tams but his Warhorse song and the whole presentation of the piece was absolute magic, and then......Joss Stone absolutely murdered (sorry about the use of the word) Willie McBride!! Nothing to do with liking or disliking folk music or the song. The presentation was absolutely disrespectful to the lyrics. She might as well have been la-la-la-ing. It was all about what Joss Stone could do with her vocal acrobatics! The guitar accompaniment I don't object to. It didn't particularly intrude on the song but, my god, she did.

I'm not slagging off any type of music. Under other circumstances I would probably like Joss Stone's singing. I'm a big fan of Annie Lennox for instance. But her style of singing that song was totally inappropriate IMO. Funnily enough everyone I've spoken to since agrees with this.
