Kings of the South Seas
Tuesday 18 November, 7:30pm - 10:30pm
Cecil Sharp House, London
Ben Nicholls vocals, concertina, double bass
Richard Warren guitar
Evan Jenkins drums
Ben Nicholls, Richard Warren and Evan Jenkins launch their new album, Kings of the South Seas. Inspired by the epic British whaling expeditions of the late 18th and early 19th centuries, around Cape Horn and out into the South Pacific and its many islands, the album was recorded at Cecil Sharp House.
Writer and TV presenter Philip Hoare will open the show, speaking on the subject of historical whaling and man's relationship with the sea and whales, a topic which forms the basis of a number of his books. This brutal world will then be brought to life by the band's a contemporary take on traditional songs and ballads, accompanied by a film of found footage created by Bafta nominated documentary maker Adam Clitheroe.
