integrity...................!

why do people who assume that working musicians have no integrity?

supppose its inevitable - 9 to fivers cast envious eyes at the apparent freedom of the gypsy lifestyle of pro musos. assume superiority because we have to please an audience - whereas the hobbyists can stick to their artistic vision of folk music.

but actually there is an integrity in going out and trying to divine what will please a roomful of strangers - folks, shall we say. by and large you get an honest and sometimes a brutally honest reaction.

in comparison, many folk clubs are quite indulgent - forgiving of people forgetting lyrics, inability to tune, etc. can these hobbyists claim to have approached their music with more integrity than even the bare minimum of competence that pro musicians employ.
