It's now morning, storms have passed and we had very good rain last night with more forecast for today - fingers crossed that actually happens! One thing that we don't want, however, are 'dry' electrical storms with lots of thunder and lightning but no (or very little) rain. Many fires are started by lightning strikes and, to quote a favourite media cliché, the bush is "tinder dry". It's such a cliché, in fact, that many people eagerly await the first sighting of the phrase in spring each year, and newspaper columnists announce it with glee!
