Thread Name: Ode to the forgotten song
Subject: Ode to the forgotten song
I've been spending a lot of time seeking old songs I haven't heard in 30 years or more. Found one today by luck - that was Springhill Mine Disaster, the copy I found was done by The Dubliners, but I believe Pete Seeger wrote it. Not 100% sure though.

That got me thinking about other songs.

I wonder if anyone recalls a song, also by Pete Seeger I believe, that starts with:

"They passed an ordinance in our town They said we'd have to tear it down That little brown shack out back so dear to me"

I haven't heard it in perhaps 32 years, but I think it was either called, Little Brown Shack or Ode to an Outhouse. I'd love to find the song, or any information on it. Am I right that it was Pete who wrote and sang it? What was the date, the name of the album it was released on, etc.

Another song I have wanted to find for about 25 years is one called Sable Island Shores. That one was released in 1947 I believe but I can't even find the name of the artist. I've found other songs about Sable Island, I located an MP3 that songs like Johnney Cash, but it doesn't indicate the artist on it, but this one is about the men stationed on Sable Island, Newfoundland, to provide help for ships that get wrecked in those dangerous waters. I heard the song once, in 1972 I think, on a TV show called Sing Along Jubilee that was on the CBC, and the song has stuck with me ever since.

Anyone know about either of these songs? Or for that matter, are there songs you have looked for that you can't find? There is nothing worse than having people look at you as if maybe you only dreamed the song and it really didn't even exist - and nothing better than playing the song for said people after years of them insisting your memory is playing tricks on you.
