Thread Name: A Song a Day (Lenten)
Subject: ADD: Did Christ o'er Sinners Weep (Beddome)
DID CHRIST O'ER SINNERS WEEP? (VIDEO)
Words: Benjamin Beddome ("He wept for me"), in A Selection of Hymns from the Best Authors, by John Rippon, 1787. Learned from the singing of Doc Watson on "On Praying Ground." The tune Doc Watson sang is unknown (Traditional). I heard this extraordinarily beautiful and strong hymn on the way home from Ohio, climbing through the dark Moshannon Valley Mountains along Route 80.Adapted, edited, verses 3,4 © 2014 Susan O. Hinton and arranged © 2014 Greg and Susan O. Hinton for The Good News-Goodtime Band. Dedicated to Mike and Cherie.

And when He was come near, He beheld the city, and wept over it… Luke 19:41

RFEFRAIN:
Did Christ o'er sinners weep,
And shall our cheeks be dry?
Let floods of holy, healing grief
Spring forth from ev'ry eye.

1. The Son of God in tears
The blessed angels see!
Those tears were shed for everyone;
They were shed for even me.

2. He wept that we might weep;
Each sin demands a tear:
In heav'n alone no sin is found;
There is no weeping there.

3. O news so welcome hear,
That captives are set free!
The better flood His Gospel gives,
That heal-ed we may be.

4. This holy flood of tears
Shall cleanse the heart, the mind;
Renew our faith, let loose our love--
His Kingdom here to find.
