Subject: RE: Philip Pickett (ex-Albion Band) jailed.
I was pretty gutted to hear the news... shocked. Terrible for the victims, the despicable things he's done. And yes, the dichotomy between this and the delightful music he's been responsible for and collaborated in. It was David Munrow and Pickett (via the Albions)that got me into early music. I can't listen to any of that stuff now without the shadow of what Pickett's done looming over it. A shame that the music and his associates over the years (through no fault of their own)will seem tainted by it. I thought of the 'Jockey to the Fair' dialogue of John Tams and Shirley Collins on 'Son of Morris On' - "I'll tell my mother, yes, that I will, how you've served her daughter" - which assumes a more sinister timbre knowing that Pickett's recorder provides the accompaniment...
