Thanks for the search term, Dorothy. I found the story. Wow. That guy is a basket case.

Big virtual sort out and declutter of old media. I started by trying to find some papers I wrote in graduate school, and ended up discarding a bunch of old floppy disks, duplicate files on CDs, and jewel cases (they'll recycle at the e-waste place). A stack of DVDs of work from work (they were my backup at the house when I telecommuted all of the time) are going to the office. I've cleared out three small bins and two large ones - but most importantly, I finally found a backup of the papers and an old CV that has some information to add to the file I recently started from scratch.

I used to have some non-woven plastic cloth sleeves, but they leave a film on the disks after a while. Now I keep my DVDs in paper sleeves. A lot of stuff is backed up on hard drive or thumb drives, but these items weren't. I'm glad they were still readable.
