I am pedantic about this, because my dear late first wife's maiden name happened to be Godwin [no relation], & she and her family suffered from being constantly rendered as Goodwin. Your Godwinson seems to be a further wrinkle! My own family (Myer) have always suffered similar abuse in form of Myers, a much more common form; or Mayer or Meyer...*
