Thread Name: Tune Req: Popular waltzes for country dance bands
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Popular waltzes for country dance bands
I'm fond of minor key anything, so in waltzes:

A Bruxa - by Anton Seaone of the group Millidoro (hope I spelled that right)Used for ECD "The Sorceress" lovely-spooky sounding
Bonnie at Morn
Candles in the Dark - Jonathan Jensen (ECD)
Captain Henry O'Kain - O' Carolan
Carolan's Welcome - O' Carolan
Dark Island (Scottish TV theme- there are plenty of Mudcat posts on this tune/song)
Far Away - Pete Jung
Flowers of the Thorn - Welsh Used for ECD "Waterfall Waltz"
Wood Duck - Fried de Metz Herman (ECD)

Most of my repertoire comes from English Country dance and I was intrigued with Leenia's comments about "My Lady of the Lake." When I went searching for it, I couldn't find any notated music - just lists of it being danced at various ECD events, the choreography for the dance, and a number of videos of it being danced. The tune did indeed sound lovely, and when I traced back on one band's website, the tune for the DANCE My Lady of the Lake was a recently composed waltz by a woman on the west coast - sorry I don't remember the name. I saw the dance listed in both classes of "newer" dances being taught AND for a Playford Ball, yet couldn't find a tune in any ECD historical resources I have. Two different tunes? I remain flummoxed, frustrated and vastly curious. (A caller friend thought it was worth pursuing)

SOoooooo Leenia, if you do find a way to send the dots out for this waltz PLEASE send 'em to me as well? I'd be glad to reciprocate with one of my favorites from a local composer.

Joanne in Cleveland.

ps - for heartbreakingly lovely tunes other than waltzes - tomorrow is the day to play "Easter Thursday" the purtiest thing in the ECD cannon.
