In response to Don Day I would say you are right about Microsoft but Macs are expensive. Get a new hard drive and install an up to date Linux. Here in the UK it's about £30 for a hard drive and Linux is free, or perhaps the cost of a blank DVD, and you can update your operating system for free any time you want.
