Michelle, it sounds like your Nana has things well in hand. My mother was a psychiatric social worker and used to tell us about the inner workings of things going on in peoples lives. It sounds like your Nana has done a "summing up" of her life and is making sound decisions for herself. Your mother and aunt aren't at that stage of their lives and will suffer until they come to terms with it all.

My great friend Elaine is 100, and over the years has given me various pieces of handwork. Knitted shawls, crazy patch comforters - maybe 10 years ago we were talking, and she commented that I'm like one of her kids. I told her that what I'd really like as a memento, is that when the time comes, would she leave me one of the beautiful hand-made quilts she made over the years? I've known her literally all of my life, and spent several years caretaking at her house while she was away helping her daughter raise children and go to the university (a couple of those years in the UK). The room I stayed in had one of them, as did all of the bedrooms, and she has given a lot away. A few weeks later, right on my birthday, a box arrived with one of those quilts. She wasn't leaving it to a will, she sent it to me then. It is a wonderful household item that I treasure because she made it with her hands. That's enough.

The second coat of paint is on the walls in the bathroom. Some touchup needed tomorrow (where I bumped the ceiling), but I'll be down mostly to painting the trim. This bathroom has the same old paint on the trim that was there years ago because I never completely finished painting when I moved in. Now I will. The job that will wait until after company leaves is to put down a new tile floor.

I've been putting away things in the living room - and I need to up the pace on that so that it's ready for company before they get here. :)
