While researching the song Cheerly Men for another thread, I kept coming across Quakers being mentioned in sea chanteys. Then I googled the phrase "seafaring quakers" and a buncha stuff came up (Moby Dick?) - so my question to the forum is, where there really a lot of Quakers at sea, or is Quaker just a good word to use in a sea chantey? Rhymes with take her, make her, baker shaker and who knows what all else? Her referring to the ship half the time of course...
