I don't know whether the state of Florida gave its employees Friday off or not. The only state employees I know work at either Pensacola State College or The University of West Florida, and they've both been on four-day work weeks during summer sessions for at least twenty years. Theoretically, it's to save money on utilities. In actuality, it saves diddly-squat, but going back to a five-day summer schedule would probably be met with a level of resistance that would make The French Revolution look like a heated game of tiddlywinks.
