I identified the ballad from the king, the throne and the wine, and concluded from those that the shield must represent Dunfermline. I still don't get all of it. And the July dates surprised me, as I have always assumed that the bad time of year for the voyage was the winter, though I concede that we do get thunderstorms in the summer.
