It turns out that MGM Lion hit the nail right on the head. The DH took a photo of the painting while on the boat, and comparing the two shows that the Monet MGM mentioned above was definitely the source for the decoration. Even the boy, (whom I hadn't noticed) was in the background.

Comparing the two shows why people appreciate Monet. Monet's clouds are luminous, and his flowers, though impressionist, are unmistakably flowers. I don't have words to describe how real he made the drapery of his wife's gown. The copy, which was done with matte paints, merely conveyed the idea of the original, but lacked life. And given the setting and the purpose of it, that is probably all right.

I have been musing on the psychology of that copy. There was a lot of drinking on the ship, and I think the boat owners wanted to convey, "Get high if you want, but this is a classy place. Don't get wasted."

The cruise visited the west coast of Norway, and it was splendid.
