Thread Name: Mudcat MIDI download, extract problem?
Subject: MIDITEXT Instructions
Oh, OK, Sorcha, it's Alan of Australia's MIDITEXT program you want to learn.
First, put the MIDITEXT.EXE program all by itself in its own folder.
Next, double-click it, and it should self-extract.
Highlight and copy [ctrl-c] all the red text from a tune that's been posted.
Paste [ctrl-v] that text into a text file, and save the file.
Drag the file onto the Test2MID program, and it should convert the text file into a MIDI. It's a ten-second process for me, far easier than e-mailing MIDI files.
It takes some experimentation, but it's easy once you get used to it. I have to admit I avoided using it for the first several months - and I became a believer as soon as I tried it. As has been said in the thread, it can have trouble with minor keys and with some unusual things, like time signature and key changes in the middle of a tune. Good luck, Sorcha. -Joe Offer-
