Subject: Lyr Add: THE CORNCRAKE (Ian Dye)
Ian also shared this song with me when I asked him about The Barque Favell.

Another song you might be interested to sing is 'The Corncrake'

This ship used to steam into Bristol City Docks with Port, Sherry and Brandy, Bristol being a major wine importer, mainly from Bordeaux. She belonged to the General Steam Navigation of London, whose ships were named after birds.

THE CORNCRAKE
(Ian Dye)

Neath summer sky and the setting sun
The Corncrake steams on the Bristol run
Brandy for the waiters tray
The sailors they have earned their pay

O'er the seas to Bristol Town
Loaded down with Brandy O
O'er the seas to Bristol Town
Loaded down with Brandy O, Brandy O

Rolling on through the deep green day
Towards the hills of Redcliff Bay
The Corncrake steams upon her way
Through the moonlit night till the brake of day

O'er the seas to Bristol Town
Loaded down with Brandy O
O'er the seas to Bristol Town
Loaded down with Brandy O, Brandy O

Then the Captain I heard tell
That's the sound of the King Road Bell
Steaming on by Vincent's Rock
To the Brandy shed and the Bristol Dock

O'er the seas to Bristol Town
Loaded down with Brandy O
O'er the seas to Bristol Town
Loaded down with Brandy O, Brandy O

Bound for the Bristol City Docks
By Hotwells and the Cumberland Lock
Down the reach and the Harbourside
Safe and sound from the Severn Tide

O'er the seas to Bristol Town
Loaded down with Brandy O
O'er the seas to Bristol Town
Loaded down with Brandy O, Brandy O

Our Captain said make fast fore and aft
For the Corncrake, she's a pleasant craft
Now ashore we'll have good fun
Drinking of a bottle of rum
