Subject: RE: 2015 Obit: RIP Andrea Aldridge, Seattle
I am heartbroken to hear that Andrea has died. I first met Andrea through an internet group called rec.music.folk, back before there was a worldwide web, and we connected on many levels. We lost touch a few years back, but I tried to track her down this year; now I know she was ill, in the last months of life.
Andrea was a first rate singer and a wonderful songwriter - a mainstay of St. Elmo's Choir and one half of Pilots of Tiger Bay. She had an extraordinary talent, an irreverent sense of humor, and a deep sensitivity, as well as a love for all things nautical. I used to sing her excellent song for the Lady Washington, "Outward Bound."
Even though we'd been out of touch, I have always thought of her as a dear friend and soulmate, and my heart weeps at this news.
Goodbye Andrea, my friend. I mark your passing in your own words, so brilliantly wrought:
She's outward bound, and headed for her homeland
The summons of the wind's song will pull her towards the sea
Her bows turned round from this shore unto her own land,
Her sails joining in song, she knows where she must be,
Upon the wave, she's free.
