Thread Name: Lyr Add: Put On Your Old Grey Bonnet
Subject: Lyr Add: IF YOU CAN'T GET FIVE, TAKE TWO
IF YOU CAN'T GET FIVE, TAKE TWO
Words and music by Joe Davis, Andy Razaf & Paul Denniker, ©1934.
As recorded by Georgia White, 1936.

Sadie's got a little store
Way down in Baltimore.
Other stalls are closin' up but she's doin' fine.
How she sells the merchandise,
Gee, you'd be surprised,
And how fast she gets rid of her line.

She goes out and gets the coin,
Cuts the price on tenderloin,
Gives them all a special sale on stew.
Meat gets older ev'ry hour.
They won't buy it if it's sour.
If you can't get five, take two.

Go out and get the dough
And never let it go.
You're not a businesswoman if you do.
Not to be on the defensive,
You must keep up your expenses.
If you can't get five, take two.

Show them ev'rything you've got.
Make them buy it when it's hot.
Ev'ry day you must increase your revenue.
Ev'ry customer who buys it
Only helps to advertise it.
If you can't get five, take two.

You will not be in the red
If you learn to use your head,
And you do what other salesmen do.
You must think of your position.
You got plenty competition.
If you can't get five, take two.

[There was an earlier recording by Peggy Johnson and her Orchestra (1934), and a slightly later one by Milton Brown and his Brownies (1936).]
