I never heard his program, being nowhere near D.C., but I loved old radio programs. In my college days and beyond I used to listen to the CBS Radio Mystery Theater. I saved my long drives to and from home and work and school for that hour so I could listen, and often sat in the driveway to listen to the end. Friends knew what was up if I didn't come into the house right away after they heard my truck in the drive.

If my love of that was a fraction of his for all of those old programs, it sounds like he had a marvelous career. And it seems somehow the fitting end that in his hospital room he and his family listened to his last program and then he died shortly after.
