Putting steel; especially light gauge, strings on it would also make it difficult to tune accurately as the bridge set-up is totally different on a nylon strung guitar than a steel strung. There are plenty of cheap and cheerful steel string guitars out there so I'd advise getting one of those if yiu're set on a steel string - its one of the better things to comeout of computerised production, 20 or 30 years ago cheap steel strings were awful, nowadays at least they're playable.
