Sorry, old chap, but Taurus and not Ruger makes the Judge. It is an adequate revolver. And I hate to bust your bubble but the only thing (barring a lucky shot) that a .410 or a .45 Colt round would do to a bear of either sort is to annoy them. Then, if you've filed your sights flat and have your gun well lubricated it won't hurt quite so much when the bear shoves it up your behind. Granted that the noise might frighten the bear away it is also possible that it will annoy it even more. And yes, I live in country with grizzlies, black bears, wolves, mountain lions, and wolverines.

As for snakes -- I've dealt with rattlers without killing them. Like the bears, don't surprise them and they won't surprise you.
