translated and excerpted from "La cancion en el sombrero," author Horacio Salinas of Inti-Illimani. Recollections of the 1982 release of the Flight of the Condor soundtrack.

"The Flight of the Condor" was recorded in Rome in just one afternoon. A job by commission (encargo). A London producer for the BBC came to us, having been impressed with the beauty of the condor in flight over the high ranges of the Andes. He needed the music from our instruments in order to realize a television program. We did it all in four or five hours. When there were two quena parts in harmony, I had to play one of the quenas, because Marcelo Coulon did not participate that time. The success of the recording assured us the sale of many discs, and a prize from London."
