Thread Name: Help: Scottish text to Silent Night
Subject: RE: Help: Scottish text to Silent Night
Back in the olden days when I was young and went to church, 'Still the Night' was sung in the church with the lights having been darkened, just as midnight approached on Christmas Eve.
The Youth Club carol singers also included it in their repertoire as they made their way round the community earlier in the evening. It was many years later that I realised that the 'Silent Night' version existed!
There was another carol that I think was either set to a Gaelic melody or had been composed originally in Gaelic -- was it 'Child in a (the?) Manger, Infant of Mary'
