I remember that we used sing this, or rather the girls did, when I was a child in the 50's. I lived in Ashfield Road, Gosforth (Sounds posh - it wasn't)There was a dance that went with it. I have always been fascinated by this ditty and have never come across it until I made a search just now.

the verse I remember is -

She wears a tartan kilt
She wears it in a fashion
With a pleat doon the side
An' a tassel up the middle
