Off in a distant galaxy, planetary explorers discovered a gigantic creature. All tests showed that it was alive, but it never moved. Never stood up (it was certainly sitting), never scratched, nothing. Yet it showed respiration and neural testing demonstrated that it was almost certainly both sentient and intelligent. After many years, one scientist after another became frustrated with the project and left to study other things.

Then one day one scientist slammed his hat to the ground and shouted, "Why would Nature create a creature that did nothing except sit motionlessly? Why?"

And for the first time the creature moved. It raised itself to its full height of 37 meters and in a deep voice said, "Nature wouldn't!" and sat back down.

"My GOD!!" said the scientist. "Of course! It only stands to reason!"
