Thread Name: Origins: Clonaghadoo Sinn Féin Song
Subject: Origins: Clonaghadoo Sinn Féin Song
Hi Folks,
Does anyone know anything about the following song:

In Clonaghadoo, there's a large elm tree
So tall and so straight it's a sight for to see,
And proudly there exploding through sunshine and rain,
On the very top bough floats the flag of Sinn Féin.

There are five further 4 liner verses that I am working on at present from an old local recording. The air on the recording is a variation of "The Mountains of Mourne". Clonaghadoo is located in Co.Laois close to the Offaly border.
I have no idea who composed the song. Any help??

Tony
