Thread Name: Tech: Interesting stuff (issues) about Windows 10
Subject: RE: Tech: More interesting stuff about Windows 10
To answer Joe's remarks: When I got Win7, I learned that I needed Win 7 Pro in order to run the many older freeware programs that I have collected for 5- 10 years. As Win8 was introduced, I heard more & more stories about it refusing to deal with older programs... and Windows 10, whatever its strengths, is also an attempt to herd all the sheep into the same pen, following the same update procedures and doing whatever they wish with data collection & tracking. Their assurance that it will be a big, fancy, cozy pen with hot & cold running 'features' does not answer MY concerns.
I have a fairly narrow view of how I want MY browsers to look, behave and update, and I have strong preferences about where MY data is stored and what programs I use to access it and manipulate it. I want nothing to do with the "cloud"...(there is no 'cloud'... that is a euphemism for "our big computer(s), not your little computer")
Now, I ain't so young anymore, and I may be able to avoid this Win10 stuff until 'the end'.. but if not, any changes I make will be to Linux, as tedious as THAT will be to sort thru.

For those who 'go with the flow' and routinely take whatever updates M$ offers, I hope it all works out for you. I will be watching from a hill overlooking your comfy pen and tending my little garden of software as best I can.
