Actually, Dave, the first massive spike in house price inflation was under Heath. The next one took place in the early Thatcher years, pre-Lawson. I know, because I benefited from that one. Not on purpose, I hasten to add! All I did was buy a little house to live in. It more than quadrupled in value in eight years and funded our move to Cornwall. In spite of that I still hate the bloody Tories. I was just lucky, and I was in the minority.
