I use a metal razor but with the double and treble blades. I was unhappy with the shave.

I saw an article some tome ago where a guy said that to make your blades last and get better shaves, you should clean your razor after shaving using an old toothbrush cleaning between the blades.

You know what??? It works for me. I get a much better shave and my blades last much longer.
