Thread Name: Janet Harbison: harps Celtic & Gaelic
Subject: Janet Harbison: making a difference
from The Story of the Irish Harp: Its History and Influence, by Nora Jean Clark

page 137
In 1980 Janet Harbison was chosen to be the first Irish harper to be part of a long concert tour through North America by the Irish traditional music society, Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Éireann. We had a branch of this Irish cultural society in Seattle, so my husband and I offered to host some musicians in our home....You may be sure that Janet and I had lots to talk about, trading harps and news.
The concert in Seattle, with all their fellow musicians and dancers, was delightful, and enjoyed by a large audience. At their departure, we drove our visitors to Sea-Tac airport. Janet carried her harp with her. As we were waiting at the gate for the plane to arrive, Janet suddenly bent down, unpacked her harp, and began to play. It was a song of joy, as well as farewell. That was a long time ago. I knew then that Janet Harbison was a woman who would make a difference in her promising future career.
