Thread Name: Lyr Req: Gloucestershire drinking song
Subject: Lyr Req: Gloucestershire drinking song
Had an email asking if I knew of a Stroud Gloucestershire UK drinking song. Full English & Roud Index are not showing anything. Have asked elswhere.

There are many reports of a long song by Edward (Teddy) Wilkins, who is reported to have died of drink in Rodborough in 1825. His "Stroud Brewery, A new poem in praise of good beer" is said to run to 84 verses, of which this is the only one quoted:

"When going, one day, to my employ,
I met a wagon load of joy: —
It made me thirsty to see't — for why?
It came from Watts's Brewery."

Please do you know anything more about this song? I don't need all 84 verses (though it would be nice) but a bit more will show proper scholarship!

Cheers!
Marion

Any ideas?
