Thread Name: Tech: Interesting stuff (issues) about Windows 10
Subject: RE: Tech: More interesting stuff about Windows 10
Well, FWIW, I let the Windoze 10 update go through a couple of months ago, to see how it works, and I've not had any problems so far. I'm using MS Office 2003 without problems, I've still got Media Player and Movie Maker here, all my old freeware photo manipulation program(me)s still work, the only thing I had trouble with was Acrobat Reader, so I replaced it with a Freeware .pdf reader which works fine.

Seems W10 has two modes, Desktop which works much like W7, and Tablet which works much like W8. On my desktop, it reasonably enough works in Desktop mode, but on the laptop, which is a touch-screen jobbie, it kept trying to switch to Tablet mode til we found how to tell it not to. (Don't ask, I can't remember now. At least I know it can be done, so I'll find it again if I need to). I use Firefox as my browser and third party email progs, so I don't know about MS's versions - my old progs work as normal and most of the time I could still be on W7 for most of the things I do. So, no problems.

Oh, and I also use IObit's Advanced System Care, which turns off a lot of the insecurities and reporting functions, and also prevents downloads from changing my default homepage and search engine, which seems like a Good Thing.

I'm sure all of these things have their downsides, but hey - we're getting a hell of a lot of function for 'free'. If you're not paying for the product, you ARE the product.
