Sorry for the deviation, but I love this song and have a great memory of Tom Paxton singing it at Glasgow's Celtic Connections festival in a January quite a few years ago.

Anyway, we were all sat in a large venue in what seems to be recognised as a 'cabaret style' setting -- seats and round tables -- and suffered through an unnecessary support act for the first half. And finally Tom came on after the interval and (without words) broke into a descending guitar intro -- bom, bom, bom -- at which half the audience, all of a certain age, burst into the chorus "Bottle of wine etc.". This was the first time we had seen Tom in Glasgow in a goodly number of years and there were many who wanted to join in as would have been customary during his previous visits. But there was a sizeable section of the audience (younger than us) who turned around and gave us astonished/disapproving looks, as if to suggest that they had paid money to hear Tom and we were confounding their expectations…

Needless to say, we continued to sing choruses as appropriate and enjoyed a superior night!
