A short time before whe passed, Fontella Bass released a gospel-themed album which I bought. If memory serves, the title was "No Ways Tired," after one of the gospel hymns. In good voice and good taste on every track. Ironically, the one that really make my ears perk up was the song which was not conventional gospel, but a Jackie deShannon pop tune: "What the World Needs Now." Ms. Bass, like other great African-American singers before her, could sing Anglo-American pop music with wonderful confidence and authority.
