I suppose maybe a vicar might have had an electric one - they were in big cabinets, and unless I'm mistaken the electricity just drive the turntable round, rather than amplify the sound. The records were still shellac 78s of course, but clasical ones were sometimes 12in instead of the niormal 10in.
