Thread Name: Lyr Req: Lookin' for the You (Bob Gibson)
Subject: Lyr Add: LOOKIN' FOR THE YOU (Bob Gibson)
LOOKIN' FOR THE YOU
Written by Bob Gibson
As recorded by Bob Gibson on "Uptown Saturday Night" (1984)

1. Sometimes there's a sweeter curve,
A different way to touch the nerve,
Exciting just because it's strange and new,
But then the novelty wears thin.
I have to face the fact again
I'm looking for the you in someone new.

2. So I invent new fantasies
Of brand-new thrills I think I need,
Then I seek them out, but when I'm through,
It hurts me then to realize
It's just a futile exercise,
Lookin' for the you in someone new.

BRIDGE: And all the time I look for you,
I'm blind to everything I see.
I could miss Miss Wonderful
If she were standin' right in front of me.

3. So I flirt and carry on,
A not-so-satisfied Don Juan.
I'm sorry; I don't know what else to do.
To some it must look pretty sad
To search so hard for what I had,
Lookin' for the you in someone new.

REPEAT BRIDGE

4. Maybe someday I'll discover
The one who is the perfect lover,
And I can close the books on me and you,
Concentrate on my new friend,
Never have to go again,
Lookin' for the you in someone new.

[The performance video linked by Boot Leg above has a couple of variants from these lyrics (1) I think he sings "couldn't" instead of "could" in the bridge, but this doesn't make as much sense to me as "could." (2) I think he sings a different line instead of "concentrate on my new friend" in verse 4, but I can't make out what it is.
