The "desolation of the Pit "is a description of certain mental states that appear to obtain both acutely and chronically within a 2.5 kilometer radius of Pocatello, Idaho. Physicists and psychologists have been baffled as to its cause, but historians have hazarded the theory that it began shortly after a management turnover in the Public Library. Grant applications are being prepared to pursue further inquiries.
