Thanks for this. I am in my mid-70's now but remember my mother singing this to me. Her version was about a little girl. I remember the first time I heard it, I must have been about six or seven and couldn't stop crying with the way it ended. None of my siblings remember but it is embedded in my memory. Thanks again.
