Thread Name: Lyr Req: Farewell to the Mountains (Davy Crockett)
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Farewell to the Mountains (Davy Crockett)
'Farewell' has been with me every day of my life since I first heard it as a child. (I am now 70) I have the original 78 RPM record from my youth. Cadence records Inc. NY. NY. From record label: Record #1256 (both sides). 'Farewell' D. Crockett - G. Burns (Sung by) Bill Hayes. (recording number) F7-OB-0459. The reverse ('A') side is recording number F7-OB-0458 'The Ballard of Davy Crockett' T.Blackburn - G. Burns (sung by Bill Hayes). We got this record shortly after seeing the Davy Crockett movie at the Webster (MA) theater when it first came out in the 1950's. I have been looking for a 78 RPM record player ever since I discovered my sister still had our 78 records a couple of years ago. I have long longed to know all the words as I have often found myself singing what I know, with great feeling. I have always sung "farewell to ye mountains". 'Ye' carries with it the far greater feeling this version holds--if infact there is another later version.
