To answer ClintonHammond, the English is against who. Fine song that it is, it is anti English so should not be used as a National Anthem. Many years ago Dick Gaughan proposed that it should be The Freedom Come All Ye, by Hamish Henderson. This is a positive song about peace and freedom for EVERYBODY.
