Thread Name: 'Tra-la-la'
Subject: 'Tra-la-la'
"My sweetheart, come along,
Can you hear the sweet song,
The sweet notes of the nightingale flow?"
... Wait for it ... "Tra-la-la!"
In almost every folk event I go to, it seems almost obligatory to insert the 'Tra-la-la', with great gusto and enjoyment.
I sometimes find it slightly irksome, especially if I'm the singer; because it's a pretty song, and not enhanced at all by the 'Tra-la-la'. Just occasionally, I'd like to hear it without!
And yet ... I'll happily join in with 'traditional' interjections in other songs, and enjoy doing so! Folk music is fun, and should be enjoyed by everyone; we should never just sit there po-faced, listening intently to every song in silence.
For me, the 'Tra-la-la' is slightly annoying (maybe a 2 on a scale of 1-10). But to others, probably some of my interjections, in their songs, are at least as annoying!
What do you all think?
