I, and others of my acquaint, have always sung thus ;

The men of yon forest, they ask it of me,

How many strawberries grow in the salt sea ?

And I answer them back with a tear in my eee ( Scots for "eye" )

How many ships sail in the forest ?

* Many English words are pronounced differently by Scottish people, for example Heed ( head) , deed (dead),lang (long)

Example ; "If at firrrst ye don't succeed,
          Pull yer foreskin o'er yer heed "
