Just today I was at a very nice coffee morning in the village, and everyone seemed terribly concerned that I was wearing sandals, not shoes, in spite of the rain. My theory is that water gets in but then goes out again if one is wearing sandals. Several people asked, "But aren't you cold?" I had to reply, "No, because actually I'm wearing some clothes."
(I must add, I have very nice, unspoiled feet, so it wasn't as if I was displaying a ghastly array of corn and bunions!)
